Stock judging skills on test
May 11, 2009
Farmers will have the opportunity to pit their livestock judging skills at NSA North Sheep, the National Sheep Association northern region's biennial one day event to be staged on Wednesday, 3 June at Laund Farm, Chipping, Preston by kind permission of the Stott family.

Visitors will be able to take part in selecting lambs that meet the preferred marketing specification on the EBLEX stand and entry is free. Dugdale Nutrition has put up £100 plus product to the overall winner and £50 cash is at stake for the highest placed under 21 year old entrant.

Stockjudging skills will be put to the test in a competition featuring five pens of sheep and three open sections, gents, ladies and under 21s, each offering a total of £100 in cash prizes from Honda UK/Robert Taylor and Sons with a further £100 donated by Clitheroe Auction Mart to the overall winner. All proceeds from the £2 entry fee will be donated to the event's charity, the Great North West Air Ambulance Service.

"Selecting stock to meet tight market specifications is increasingly import if sheep producers are to exploit their stock's true potential value," says event organiser, Julie Sedgewick. "These two initiatives are designed to help hone and reward visitors' selection skills and also enjoy the competition."
